Round 9 - One Day Match results vs South Tamworth

It was a week of where all teams struggled with a shortage of players and 4th grade players were required to fill in the gaps in the upper grades. But with two wins out of our 3 grade matches it was a good result for the Club.
Also it was pleasing to see the good number of players & supporters come along to No. 1 oval and see First grade just fall short at the final hurdle in their attempt to chase down South’s total. A win is not too far away for our Firsts if they continue to display there their good batting form.

First Grade
City lost the toss and were sent out to field first.
Souths were all out for 171 in the 39th over.
Best bowling: Dan Lawrence 5/39 off 7 overs; Richie O’Halloran 2/34 off 8 overs; Nathan Whale 1/14 off 8 overs.
In reply City hit 8/160 off their 40 overs.
Best batting: Dan Whale 43 runs N/O; Leo Steyn 33 runs; Richie O’Halloran 28 runs; Ryan Hansen 20 runs.

A great run chase just falling short in a great game at No. 1 oval under lights with the captain hitting his highest score this season.

Second Grade
City lost the toss and were sent out to field first.
Souths were all out for 153 in the 39th over.
Best bowling: Brock Hawley 4/53 off 8 overs; Jay Sippel 3/46 off 7 overs.
In reply City made 7/155 in 33 overs.
Best batting: Ben Cederblad 35 runs; Sean Hancock 26 runs; Jay Sippel 26 runs.

A good win for seconds earning them a bonus point. It was great to see Jay Sippel back on the field again and chipping in with a good performance.

Third Grade
City won the toss and elected to bat first.
City made 9/218 off their 40 overs.
Best batting: Peter Mead 75 runs; Dave Smith 42 runs; Cory Callcott 31 runs; Andrew McDonald 20 runs.
In reply Souths were all out for 170 in 37 overs.
Best bowling: Peter Mead 3/29 off 7.4 overs; Adam Ballantine 2/32 off 8 overs; Tom Fitzgerald 2/28 off 8 overs.

Another good win for the mighty 3rds. A special mention to 13yr old Tom Fitzgerald (filling in with his dad Anthony) and snaring 2 wickets and scoring 12 runs N/O.
