City United finished off the season on the brightest note possible, toppling South Tamworth in a remarkable and dramatic final round clash at Riverside 2.
It was a game of recoveries with Souths fighting back from 7-47 to post 169.
City then looked in dire straits early at 6-39 with Ryan Hansen (21) the only one of the top six to make double figures but we then started to dig ourselves out our trouble. Micheal Bellamy and Peter Mead (38) steadied things and got City back into it with a 64-run stand.
When Micheal was out for 91 City still needed 5 runs for victory. Jack (Call me a batsman now) McVey (10 not out) did a superb job batting at number 10 and staying out there for 15 overs welcomed Tezza Kampe who strode to the wicket. City had a couple of scares in getting the last few runs they needed but got there with Terry driving a four for the winning runs.
Michael Bellamy was the hero for City, hitting 91 and guiding us to within sight of victory.
Richie O’Halloran was the main man with the ball for City on Saturday picking up both Skilton and Natty to finish with 2-34 |
