Our own 1st Grade captain Simon Toyer has his stumps rattled in last Friday night's Twenty20 season opener. We have all had it happen but not too many of us having it blasted over the back page of the newspaper. I thought his technique looks good but this is from me, someone that has just had two golden ducks.
Simon will be leading our 1st Grade team into battle this Saturday in a strong position, he will be hoping for early wickets from the best bowler in Tamworth, Jack McVey and his opening partner Ben Semmler.

Two centuries in two day and then a solid 21 runs in the final to see the boys home.

City United's own Ryan Hansen had three very big days, being part of the Under 19's Central North Zone  team in the Country Championships played in Coffs Harbour over three days. On Friday Ryan opened the batting and scored an century (105) again the Central Coast team. On Saturday he score his second century (109) in as many days against Western.
In the final against a very strong Newcastle side Ryan got the team off to a solid start with a nice 21 runs before he was run out. Congratulations to Ryan for his double century and being part of this victorious Central North team.
We at City are so pleased to have another senior player being represented on the big stage, it just proves once again if you have the talent and dedication that any City player can make it.

Up-date of the weekends matches

Brett Walsh scored a handy 13 on Saturday

 Our top three grades all had similar starts to their matches, all three grades batted first, all three grades knew this match would be a test for our sides, all three grades found themselves in early trouble. Before our three grades stood their ground from early loses and through some personal achievements with the bat were able to post a competitive score.  In 1st grade at one stage we were 6 wickets down for 40 runs. Until Ben Semler 69 runs and Peter Mead 64 runs put on a wonderful partnership. Brett Walsh (13) was able to keep the score rolling on, allowing City to post a competitive 170. Old Boys are also in early trouble being 3 down for 32 runs. Game on next week.

 2nd grade were in major trouble 7 for 34 and were hoping just to get to 50. But Paddy Dwyer had other ideas. Through patience and skill he completely dominated the bowling attack and just fell short of his century being given out for a amazing 94 runs.

 



Our 3rd grade side were not much better being 4 wickets for 26 runs.
Eddie Beattie (15) and Graeme Schwenke (24) halted the fall of wickets with a nice partnership. In the field Liam Dunn was the pick of the bowlers and Ryan Woods bowled himself to a stand still.



Our 4th grade juggernaut continues on it's merry way and have Old Boys 8 wickets down for 103 after their first 40 overs in reply City are 5 down for 113 runs at the end of their 40 overs. Neil Cooke bowled well for his four wickets with Liam Rogers scoring a nice 31 runs and the ever reliable Russell Pitt complied a 33 runs innings.

On a sad note.

Dan Rogers has informed City that because of his damaged knee he will not be playing until further notice. We, all at City wish Dan all the best and a speedy recovery.

 

A Friday story.

Mobile phones are so handy but they can make a fool out of you too.

I was coming back from visiting my son in my Newcastle and I stopped at a rest stop to use the bathroom.

I just sat down on the toilet when I heard a voice coming from the stall next to mine, “Hey! How’s it going?”

Although I was quite surprised, and I wasn’t in the habit of conversing to the people next to me in the stall, I nevertheless answered him, “I’m fine” I said “thanks for asking.”

“What are you doing?” Asked the same voice.

To be honest I was a bit taken aback by the brazenness of this fellow, but I would never ignore anyone so I calmly answered, “I’m doing a number 2.”

Then I heard the same voice angrily again, “I’m going to have to call you back, some smart-aleck is answering all of your questions.”

With our roving reporter Nikki on annual leave for a few days it has been left to me for an in-depth analyses of the final day of the weekends matches.
1^st Grade, Chasing a huge score but only half of what the Aussie team is chasing, City just fell short. There were two very good partnerships in the run chase between Ryan Hansen (29 runs) and Richie (I keep scoring Runs) O’Halloran (49 runs) and Richie again with Dan Lawrence (38 runs).
2^nd Grade wasn’t chasing as many as 1st Grade but again fell a few runs short. Mark (the pup) Fisher batted for what seemed like days for his well-deserved runs. He had over a hundred run partnership with young Tommy Fitzgerald, who showed his class with the bat.
In 3^rd Grade Cory Pannowitz retained his captaincy of the team from the week before and lead the team to a first innings win. City battered a second time and had a lead of 170 runs. At the end of the days play Bective were 8 wickets down for 110 runs or so. It was an all-round team performance. Special mention must be made of Eddie Beattie who kept the team focused and had a stellar match.
As mentioned yesterday 4^th Grade had a very strong win over Bective with the talented sons out playing their parents on the day.
Our club now prepares for a two-day match against Old Boys who will be a good test for us.

Something very special is occurring down in Fourth Grade.

City United's 4th Grade side has made it two wins from it's two matches the latest being against Bective at Riverside 8 on Saturday. But that is not the reason our 4th Grade side is making history.
This team is made up of six parents and sons, that's right the whole team is a family affair. For a first for the association and City our Fourth Grade side is showing what this grade was originally developed for.  
This amazing team is as follows, the parents - Robbie Gregg.(c), Neil Cooke, Russell Pitt, Andrew Rodgers, Les Wallace, Leiden Mead (Scorer).
The very talented sons are Brody Gregg, Josh Cooke, Joey Mead, Liam Rodgers, James Wallace, Noah Pitt.
