A early Friday story

As you saw from the teams to play this coming match against Old Boys, we again unfortunately have so many players being asked to move through the grades from the 1^st week to the 2^nd week of the match, I appreciate from a players point of view this is not ideal. In total 23 players are unavailable for either one of the two Saturdays or the whole match completely.  The club has done it’s best to fill all teams and thank the support from all our players.





Our season fees are now overdue. Kathy would prefer all payments are by direct deposit in to City United bank account ANZ ,BSB 012830 account 208227482. But if you are like me, and you pay by cash, it will be received with a smile. Fees can be paid to either Kathy, Nikki or Terry. Our three mates were discussing about coincidences. Ritchie said, " my wife was reading a "tale of two cities" and she gave birth to twins"
"Thats funny", Scotty remarked, "my wife was reading 'the three musketeers' and she gave birth to triplets"
Sugar shouted, "Good God, I have to rush home!"
When asked what the problem was, he spluttered, " When I left the house, my wife was reading "The Dirty Dozen"!!!

Results from Rd 3 matches played against Norths

1^st Grade: City won the toss and elected to bowl first.
Norths declared their innings closed at 6/330 off 67 overs. Best bowling:  Simon Toyer 2/34 off 7 overs.
In reply City were dismissed for a total of 118 runs in the 39^th over. Best batting:  Harrison Kelly 36 runs; Tait Jordan 20 runs.
Norths enforced the follow-on. City were dismissed in their 2nd innings for a total of 125 runs in the 50^th over. Best batting:  Ryan Hansen 34 runs; Simon Toyer 20 runs.
 A great effort by Jack McVey and Dan Rogers.  They tried to withstand the Norths bowling attack by batting out the last 17 overs and falling 12 minutes short of holding off an outright defeat.

2^nd Grade: City lost the toss and were sent out to bowl first.
Norths were dismissed for a total of 221 runs in the 44^th over. Best bowling:  Simon Bellamy 4/77 off 12 overs; Luke Dennis 3/65 off 12 overs; Danny Malpe 2/22 off 8 overs.
In reply City were dismissed for a total of 165 runs in the 65^th over. Best batting:  Peter Mead 55 runs; Mat Ballantine 33 runs.
Norths batted a second time and were 7/158 off 37 overs at the end of the match. Best bowling:   Sam Brown 5/31 off 7.1 overs.
Congratulations to Sam Brown on taking a 5 wicket haul.

3^rd Grade: City won the toss and elected to bat first.
City were dismissed for a total of 115 runs in the 44^th over.
Best batting:   Rod Pryor 25 runs; Josh Miles 19 runs; Graeme Schwenke 17 runs; Paul Lawrence 15 runs N/O.
In reply Norths declared their innings closed at 8/275 in the 56^th over.
Best bowling:  Paul Lawrence 3/63 off 13 overs; Luke Dennis 2/18 off 7.3 overs.
City went out to bat for a second innings and were dismissed for a total of 65 runs in the 29^th over. Best batting:  Trent Balderston 30 runs.

4^th Grade: City lost the toss and were sent out to bat first.
City were dismissed for a total of 175 runs in the 63^rd over. Best batting:  James Wallace 29 runs; Mark Chew 28 runs; Doug Truman 25 runs.
In reply Norths were dismissed for a total of 183 runs in the 62^nd over. Best bowling:   Neil Cooke 3/22 off 8 overs; Lachlan Cooke 2/45 off 13 overs; Joey Mead 2/15 off 8 overs. City's young juniors are performing so well.

City NEWS

City United with be holding it’s Christmas party on the 7^th December at the Tamworth City Bowling Club after the match. There will lots of food as well as Christmas cake with ice cream as desert. Barefoot bowls will be available for those who are willing. There will be lots of fun. Further information will be posted as it comes to hand.

Training this afternoon, it is important that we continue to improve and develop our cricket skills as individuals and more broadly as a club. The numbers at training have been very good with everyone putting in, lets continue with that enthusiasm.

Our President, feeling a bit glum after scoring two ducks on Saturday.

The results from the weekend matches didn’t go our way but the season is a long one with many more matches to be played. There were positives from very match, with us all looking forward to Old Boys in another two-dayer starting this Saturday.

Our President Terry is still positive about the club prospects of achieving it’s “CLUB GOAL” of having all four teams playing in the semi-finals come March. The teams taking the field this season bear little resemblance to the teams from last season, so it will take time for players to feel comfortable and find their feet in the higher grades.

Personally we can train hard and set ourselves our own achievable short term goals and take a positive away from every match we play.

Harrison scores his second century of the season

HARRISON Kelly smacked his second century in as many innings on Friday night for McDonald’s in the Tamworth Twenty20 Premier League pummelling 103 off just 75 balls.
Kelly picked up where he left off for Tamworth last Sunday in the MA Connolly Cup where he sored 115 runs.

We are indebted to you.

We have two members within our wonderful Cricket Club who are the backbone of our club, they both work tirelessly behind the scenes. They don't take to the field but they allow us to take that winning catch or score that winning run. They dedicate their time and energy to make City United the well-financed and organized club it is. We are especially grateful for their dedication and effort in their roles as Treasurer and Secretary.  

It’s important as players that we support both these ladies in their roles. To assist Kathy in her role as Treasurer let’s continue to make a big effort to pay any outstanding season fees, as they are now overdue. There should be no need for Kathy to chase us down, let’s remember that Kathy’s tireless efforts over the past few seasons has resulted in City United having the lowest Playing Fees in the competition. Let’s continue to reply to the availability questionnaire sent out before each match from Nikki to assist in selections.

A little story for a Friday.

Our three musketeers had been lost and walking in the desert, they sees the home of a missionary. Tired and weak, the missionary nurses them back to health.
Feeling better, the men asks the missionary for directions to the nearest town and asks the missionary, "Could we buy your horse?"
The missionary says, "Sure but there is a special thing about this horse. You have to say the word
 'Thank God' to make him go and 'Amen' to make him stop."
Our three musketeers all climb onto this horse. 
 Richie at the front, Scotty in the middle with Sugar sitting at the rear. Richie yells, "Thank God" and the horse starts walking. Then he yells, "Thank God, Thank God, " and the horse starts trotting.
Feeling really brave, Richie yells, "Thank God, Thank God, Thank God, Thank God, Thank God" and the horse just literally takes off.
Hanging on for dear life, Richie suddenly sees this cliff coming up and he's doing everything he can to make the horse stop. "Whoa, stop, hold on!!!!"
Finally Scotty remembers and yells "AMEN!!"
The horse stops at the edge of the cliff.
Our three musketeers are all smiles, After a moment Sugar looks at Scotty and taps him on the shoulder and says with a smile, "Thank God"

Who will it be?

I was looking at City’s batting stats for this early part of the season and I thought to myself, who will be City’s first century maker for the 2013/14 season? Sean Hancock has been the closest with a 78, closely followed by Anthony Fitzgerald with a nice 73 runs N.O., you then have young Ryan Hansen 56.

If I was a betting man I would have one of our captains as my favourite as City’s first century maker for the season.

Harrison score a century only last Sunday in a representative match for Tamworth. Peter Mead in recent seasons has scored some amazing centuries. Then you have Anthony Fitzgerald who has also scored some delightful centuries for City. Yes my money is on them.
