An exciting announcement

Long standing supporter, scorer, heckler and Mr Nice Guy, Phillip Hood has thrown down a challenge to all City players and teams.

His challenge is for this weekend only. For every City United batsman that scores a century this weekend Phillip will buy you a carton of your choice of refreshments. But wait it goes further than that, for any City Team that scores over 200 runs this weekend Phillip will shout that team two cartons of refreshments of their choosing.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Phillip will at Riverside 1 scoring 1^st Grade on Saturday and will have his phone ready waiting to hear from any winners.

Michael Bellamy was home visiting family and friends last weekend. It was great to see him when he came down to watch some of the 2^nd Grade match on Saturday.

I have had the pleasure of watching Michael grow up from being a shy little 4^th Grader to being a confident, young man whom City can be so proud of.

Michael was telling me.   “I've settled in well to Hobart and I'm enjoying working for Regional Imaging Tasmania as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.  I found a great club to play for in North Hobart Cricket Club which has a long and rich history in Tasmanian cricket.  I've established myself as an all‑rounder (told ya Fish!) playing 2nds and 3rds.  Training with former, current and future state players has been great.  However, I never thought I'd need warm clothes to play cricket until I moved to Hobart!  The locals complain about playing in the heat when it hasn’t even reached 30 degrees.”

Strong City teams are ready to fire this weekend!!!!!

I was looking over the teams to play Old Boys this weekend. I must say it is the strongest the teams have looked for a few matches now. I am sure City will give Old Boys a run for their money throughout all four grades come Saturday. There has been a late change in 3^rd Grade with Paul Lawrence having to work on Saturday so his place has been taken by Gary Whale.

 

A little Friday story.
There were no two ways about it. Our 2nd Grade Captain Mark “Pup” Fisher has a sweet tooth. I caught up with him through the week and he told me this story. His lovely partner Rikki, had celebrated her birthday. Her mother had made this beautiful huge chocolate birthday cake for her.  

Mark went on and told me “It was terrible, what happened after the birthday party. You know how half of the birthday cake was left over? Well, I knew Rikki would be fuming at me for eating it, but I couldn’t help myself, it started with just a small nibble and before I knew it the whole cake was gone!.”
“I can imagine Rikki was really upset?” I asked.
“She never found out”, responded Mark with a full double chin smile, “I just baked another cake and ate half of it!”

    With Australian Day long weekend this weekend it got me thinking off all the different people we have in this big country of ours. It is even reflected in our own Cricket club. At City, like every other sporting club we have members from all different occupations, backgrounds, life experiences. I don’t think you would want it any other way.

You could see some weary City United boys today

You could see some weary City United boys today. As City was on duty at the Boom Gate leading into the Camping grounds along Riverside. Our City players were there to welcome the new campers to the site and collected their money.
Our 2^nd Grade side had the early six hour shift 6pm til mid night. Mark Fisher had a crew of thousand there helping out. They had the portable building supplied pumping with music and laughter as Sugar told his best jokes.
When it came to midnight Simon and the rest of our 1^st Grades took over and worked the gate till the early hours of 6am.
City should be very proud of their efforts over this Country Music Festival.

There will no training this Wednesday.

Due to the Australian Day long weekend and the many Country Music visitors to the city there are no matches this weekend and no training this Wednesday.

All grade recommence back to training and selections on Wednesday the 28^th and the first match back is against Old Boys on Saturday the 31^st January.

The grumpy old man is gone and youth with it’s positive outlook is the way to go.

Graeme Schwenke bolwed his heart out on Saturday

I was speaking to the 3^rd Grade captain Terry Skewes after the match against Bective on Saturday. Although they had lost the match he was very impressed with the bowling efforts of Ehren Hazell and Graeme Schwenke. Both men bowled very well.

He also wanted to thank the number of 4^th Graders that filled in through the Christmas /New Year period. Our 4^th Grade team recommences their own competition after the coming Long Weekend.

Special mention from Saturday's match must be made of batting openers in Garry Whale and Anthony Fitzgerald both men have had time away from the game with health issues. But you would not have known it, Anthony was his talented self-scoring another 50 runs while Garry who was up the other end was as solid as usual.

Garry told the boys that he had been watching a fair bit the 20/20 cricket on the television and that the scores should have their pens ready.
Garry started his batting like we haven’t seen before having 3 runs off his first three deliveries. He then slowed down a bit, but Garry always is teaching the young batsmen coming through City to always, always valve your wicket.
Timmy Pynter had captained this young side a few times this season and will take the Captaincy role on full time for the remaining of the season. Our 3^rd Grade team is still sitting in the top four with a nice little buffer between them and fifth place with four matches remaining until the semi-finals.

Who is he?

Who is this City player hiding in the shadows? He was down at Cricket house yesterday morning cooking up a storm of bacon and eggs.   His plays 2^nd Grade and is their Vice Captain. He looks after all our training equipment and he told me he is only a week away from being in good form with the bat.
